4 Amazing benefits of Avocado oil and why I love it

I think I was in Sub. B (Grade 2 – yes I am that old) when my dad put avo on my bread for my school lunch. He neglected to add some lemon juice so by the time I opened up my lunch box I thought it was peanut butter (don’t judge, I was 7). It was the grossest thing I ever tasted. Repulsed by the texture and taste, avocado pear had become my mortal enemy. Hop, skip and jump to 19 years later (are you trying to figure out my age right now?!), halfway through my second trimester and guess what I started craving? Yep, sliced avo with salt, pepper and a drizzle of lemon juice on toast – yum!

With #TheKid being in her teens (yes, please pray for me. ps. she hates avos) I am still craving the green fruit on toast. It’s filled with all the good fats you can think of, does wonders for your skin, and until recently, I had no idea how much my hair loves avos!

I’ve had a bottle of avocado oil in my house for a while now, but being the lazy naturalista that I am, I simply forgot about it. It surfaced again on Sunday aka wash day, while I was searching for deep conditioning ingredients. My hair was pretty knotty though, so I decided to see if it would work as a pre-poo.

As usual I spritzed my dry hair with some water, sectioned it into four equal parts, added a dollop of conditioner to the first section, added some avocado oil to the ends and started detangling my hair from the ends up and then….. M A G I C…

The avocado oil literally turned my hair into butter, melting away all my knots. I did a bit of research on avo oil and this is what I found:

  • Avocado oil is one of 7 oils that will penetrate the hair cuticle, enabling it to nourish your hair from within
  • It is packed with vitamins and nutrients which means that it is a fantastic ingredient to use in your deep conditioner
  • It moisturizes the skin and scalp and get this… it acts as a natural sunblock! Who knew!?
  • Some say that it even helps with hair growth

I am not entirely sure about the hair growth, but my focus these days is on all round hair health, keeping my hair nourished and getting rid of pesky knots. This is what makes avocado oil an absolute win in my new hair care regime.

You can pick up avocado oil at your nearest grocery or health store. If you can’t find any, how about grabbing a few avos, mash them up, add a few drops of your favourite oil and use as a hair mask!

Have you tried avocado oil on your hair before?
